ABOUT
Space 776 is pleased to present its first exhibition organized by the international community of the Sculpture School @sculpture_school_, founded in 2020 by artist Katerina Sokolovskaya. The Sculpture School has become a platform for research and experimentation in contemporary art, developing its methods that blend sculpture, performance, poetry, and photography, bringing together over 200 creative minds worldwide. The "Variable Instructions" exhibition features three-dimensional works, paintings, drawings, and photographs by graduates and instructors of the school: Anna Eiken, Arina Antonova, Ekaterina Iliykhina, Ekaterina Malafey, Katerina Sokolovskaya, Ksusha Fedya, Lilia Trembovetskaya, Margarita Khatmullina, Natali Oparina, Pavlo Grazhdanskij. The artists explore reconstructing reality perception in light of personal and political upheavals associated with changes in political regimes, migration, and personal crises. Each refers to their history, drawing viewers' attention to changes in the perception of their own body, space, and memories. Reconstruction or continuous transformation is present both conceptually and structurally through this show. By examining material artifacts of history and personal emotional states, the artists of "Variable Instructions" often resort to various sculptural instructions developed by participants of the Sculpture School, which becomes a method that unites sculptural and performative approaches. Presenting diverse ideas about the perception of body, space, and time, the exhibition participants invite viewers to reflect on contemporaneity itself and its characteristic features.
